Principals
BCA is managed by two partners, David A. Durfee, PhD, CEO and Chief Scientist, and David P. Frey, Director of Software Engineering, and their Director of Systems Engineering, Roland Croteau.
David A. Durfee, Ph.D.
Durfee has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science and a PhD. for studies in both disciplines all from Brown University. He is a past Adjunct Professor for the Computer Science Department of the University of Rhode Island and is currently an Adjunct Professor for the Division of Engineering at Brown University.
While Dave has academic credentials he also has a great deal of commercial design experience. His early career included working for Motorola, several startup companies, and serving on the technical staff of Brown University. His experience ranges from Unix systems programming to embedded systems programming to high-speed digital design as well as analog design. After partnering with Dave Frey to create BCA, he has designed and managed the design of dozens of products.
In recognition of his work with startup companies, Dave is also part of the Brown University Entrepreneurship Program, which helps Brown students turn ideas into business reality (see http://www.brownep.org). His general product design experience was also a key component in the product design course he co-taught for the Rhode Island School of Design.
David Frey
Dave Frey received his BA in Mathematics from Millersville University in Pennsylvania. During the early 80s, he taught computer languages at New England Institute of Technology, specializing in user interface design for business applications.
Dave left teaching to direct software engineering for several start-ups, including ESP Software and The Savings Spot, where he first met Dave Durfee. Several years later, Dave and Dave met again at Design Labs where they collaborated in medical design. Together, Dave and Dave left Design Labs to start BCA.
Roland Croteau
Roland Croteau received his dual BS degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He has 25 years of product development experience, primarily in the data communications industry, with 13 of these with responsibility for SW/HW engineering & business management. He spent 15 of these years with Motorola where he held positions starting from Senior Electrical Engineer to Senior Engineering Manager.
Roland joined BCA in March of 2005 from Vanguard Managed Solutions where he was formerly the company's Senior Director of Engineering.
