June 1, 2006

Insulet Corporation's OmniPod Insulet Management System received the Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry's 2006 Gold Award for Medical Design Excellence. Bay Computer Associates received Supply and Design Credit for their 5-year collaboration with Insulet to produce this award-winning device.

MDEA, a premier awards program for the medical technology community, recognizes the achievements of those who are responsible for groundbreaking innovations that change the delivery of healthcare.

From the Insulet website (www.myomnipod.com) ...

The OmniPod Insulin Management System is an innovative new product for the treatment of diabetes that brings together safe, reliable, continuous subcutaneous insulin delivery and blood glucose monitoring in an easy-to-use, two-part system.

In addition to providing the hardware Device Hazards Analysis, BCA designed the software architecture for the Portable Diabetes Manager (PDM), as well as the user interface and graphic design.

BCA also produced a Windows "GUI simulator" for the remote controller, which allowed the embedded application to be developed without target hardware, and allowed the user interface to be tested and demonstrated.

See the associated case study for further description of the project.
