2007 & 2008 Research Award Winners Among BCA Clients

Providence, RI - January 7, 2008

Each year the Rhode Island Science and Technology Advisory Council (STAC) awards research grants to innovative technology companies in Rhode Island.

At this month's meeting to announce winners of the 2008 collaborative research grants, the attendees first watched while David A. Durfee, CEO and Chief Scientist of Bay Computer Associates, demonstrated progress for one of last year's winners—Toys and Technologies for Rehabilitation. This collaboration with researchers from Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, and Bay Computer Associates, Inc. is developing a line of rehabilitative toys designed to improve function in children with motor disorders.

As the meeting progressed to this year's winners, another BCA client, Bionica Corporation, received a collaborative research award. Bionica Corporation, with assistance from BCA, is working on creating a better hearing aid, the Cleo, with a radically different design approach. (Bionica also received a Slater grant for Cleo in 2007.)
